Hop Grok to Gemini
Chat Transfer hops Grok to Gemini in Chrome by pasting a wrapped handoff from the open Grok thread on grok.com into Gemini’s composer at gemini.google.com locally — Full, Last N, or last assistant — without account migration and without silent-send.
Version 0.4.0 is live on the Chrome Web Store. Soft Auto-Send stays opt-in and default off. Preferences live in chrome.storage.local. Add to Chrome
What “hop Grok to Gemini” means here
People search “hop Grok to Gemini,” “transfer Grok chat to Gemini,” or “continue a Grok conversation in Gemini” for two different jobs. Chat Transfer only does the first:
| Job | What moves | Chat Transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Hop current thread | The Grok chat you have open on grok.com (or a detected Grok surface): Full, Last N, or last assistant → Gemini composer at gemini.google.com | Yes. Copy and export stay on this device too |
| Full-account migration | Grok / xAI history and memories — or Gemini Gems, saved info, and Google account history | No |
| Keep two sites in sync | An ongoing mirror after the hop, including TransferLLM-style account sync | No. One hop does not watch later messages |
| Send | Who presses Send on Gemini | Paste never silent-sends. Soft Auto-Send is opt-in, default off, and asks once |
This is the reverse of Hop Gemini to Grok. Same extension, same local paste; this page starts on Grok and lands in Gemini. Sibling Grok hops: Hop Grok to ChatGPT and Hop Grok to Claude. Other routes into Gemini: Hop ChatGPT to Gemini and Hop Claude to Gemini.
Grok → Gemini handoff: what crosses, what stays
This table is specific to the Grok-to-Gemini direction. It comes from how the Chat Transfer Grok adapter filters the page and how the Gemini land step writes the paste — not from either vendor’s docs.
| On the Grok page | In the Gemini paste | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| Your prompts and Grok answers (visible turns) | Kept, in order, as User / Assistant turns | Pick Full, Last N, or last assistant |
| Grok chrome / action buttons / screen-reader role labels | Dropped when they are not message bodies | Nothing — they are not turns |
| Thought / reasoning panels (when present) | Skipped so draft reasoning is not pasted as assistant text | Gemini reasons fresh; it does not inherit Grok’s internal draft |
| Visible attachments / tool canvases | A visible file name may become an [attachment not exported: …] note; binaries are not rebuilt | Check the preview, and re-upload in Gemini if it matters |
| Code blocks | Fenced Markdown when the page shows fences / language tags | Nothing — headings and fences keep their order when present |
| Long thread (over about 12k characters) | Short Last N (or compact) paste + full .md download | Attach the .md in Gemini if you need the whole history |
Where the Grok source is read, and where Gemini lands
Open the Grok thread you want to continue — usually on https://grok.com/. The Grok adapter also detects grok.x.ai and x.com / twitter.com paths under /i/grok when you are already on those pages, so Copy / Export / hop from that tab can still read the open thread. A hop toward Gemini lands on Gemini’s new-chat surface at https://gemini.google.com/ (legacy bard.google.com is also in host access for reading Gemini tabs; Open target still prefers gemini.google.com), not inside an existing Gemini conversation and not inside a Gem.
Grok’s composer is a TipTap / ProseMirror box when you are writing there; the hop from Grok reads the visible turns on the page, not page-world editor APIs. Destination Send is Gemini’s control, never Grok’s. Chat Transfer writes the land with DOM events; it does not call Gemini page-world editor APIs. If Gemini’s composer already holds a stale draft, paste land best-effort clears it once, then pastes the exact hop preview. If the box is empty after land, paste the hop backup yourself.
Steps: Grok → Gemini in Chrome
- Add Chat Transfer from the Chrome Web Store (0.4.0).
- Open the Grok chat you want to continue in Gemini (a thread on grok.com or another detected Grok surface, not an empty new chat). Wait until Grok’s last reply has finished streaming — an unfinished reply can look empty in the extract.
- Open the popup or side panel → pick a hop payload (Full, Last N, or last assistant) → optionally pick a hop reason (Continue, Second opinion, Review, Rate limit) → choose Open target / hop toward Gemini.
- Gemini’s new-chat page (
https://gemini.google.com/) gets a best-effort paste into the composer. If the box is empty, paste the hop backup yourself — Soft Auto-Send does not run on a failed land. - You click Send on Gemini — unless Soft Auto-Send is on (see below).
Extract runs when you open the popup or side panel, refresh it, hop, Copy, or Export — not in the background while you browse. The wrapped hop names Grok as the source (“The following is a transcript from Grok…”) and, when the tab URL is http(s), adds a Source: line with query, hash, and credentials stripped. Copy and Export stay unwrapped. Longer install walkthrough: How to use.
Optional Also open can open one more Site with the same hop preview. From Grok with Gemini selected, that extra Site is the next remaining id in the Claude → ChatGPT → Gemini → Grok order after excluding the source and the primary. You still press Send on each destination. There is no third destination.
Which payload for which Grok → Gemini job
The payload choice changes what Gemini receives. It does not migrate the Grok account. Copy and Export stay unwrapped and follow their own export controls.
| Job | Payload | Hop reason |
|---|---|---|
| Grok drafted it; you want Gemini to keep writing | Full (or Last N if the thread is long) | Continue (default) |
| Check a Grok answer before you trust it | Last assistant | Second opinion |
| Have Gemini critique a plan or code Grok wrote | Last N (start at 4 or 8) | Review |
| Grok slowed down or hit a limit mid-task | Last N (N starts at 10; presets 4 / 8 / 16) | Rate limit |
Hop reason only changes the wrapper opening line. Include title in wrapper is off by default; when on, the hop adds a Title: line from the Grok tab. Over about 12k characters, Gemini’s composer gets a short Last N (or compact) paste and the full Markdown downloads as a .md so a cut is not silent. See Overflow paste.
Soft Auto-Send stays opt-in (default off)
A hop paste into Gemini does not silent-send. Soft Auto-Send is opt-in (hopSoftAutoSend in chrome.storage.local, default off). After a successful paste it asks once: “Send this hop now?” Confirm presses Gemini Send once; Cancel leaves the paste; a failed paste never asks. No upgrade turns the box on for existing installs. Full walkthrough: Soft Auto-Send. Same facts as the privacy policy.
Local only — chrome.storage, no backend
Chat Transfer is a local-only Chrome extension. Settings (Demo mode, Keep system prompt, hop payload, last-used target, Soft Auto-Send) stay in on-device chrome.storage.local. There is no Chat Transfer backend; the marketing site does not receive hop text. Host access is only Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok domains — including grok.com, grok.x.ai, x.com/i/grok, gemini.google.com, and bard.google.com. Version 0.4.0 also keeps a local Library (archive → search → continue on this device); see Search Grok history locally. This hop page is the walkthrough when you want the open Grok thread in Gemini now.
When not to use a hop
- You need Grok images, files, or tool canvases re-attached in Gemini — hop does not rebuild binaries, and some attachments drop out without a note.
- You want Grok memories copied into Gemini saved info, or a Gem rebuilt from Grok custom instructions — hop does not migrate those objects.
- You want the paste to land inside an existing Gemini thread or a Gem — Open target opens a Gemini new-chat surface.
- You need an ongoing sync between xAI and Google accounts — see Hop vs migration.
FAQ
Can I hop Grok to Gemini without migrating my account?
Yes. Chat Transfer hops the open Grok thread into Gemini’s composer on this device. It does not move accounts, memories, Gems, or later messages.
Does hopping Grok to Gemini silent-send?
No. Paste never silent-sends. Soft Auto-Send is opt-in, default off, and asks once after a successful paste.
Is this different from hopping Grok to ChatGPT or Claude?
Same extension and local paste model. Source is Grok; destination is Gemini at gemini.google.com. Soft Auto-Send and payload choices (Full / Last N / last assistant) are shared. See Hop Grok to ChatGPT and Hop Grok to Claude for those land URLs.
What if Grok’s last reply is missing from the hop?
Empty-assistant honesty surfaces when an assistant turn is already in the extract list but its trimmed body is empty — for example a reply that is still streaming. Let Grok finish, check the preview, then hop again before you send on Gemini.
