Hop Claude to Gemini
Chat Transfer hops Claude to Gemini in Chrome by pasting a wrapped handoff from the open Claude thread on claude.ai into Gemini’s composer at gemini.google.com/app locally — Full, Last N, or last assistant — without account migration and without silent-send.
Version 0.4.0 is live on the Chrome Web Store. Soft Auto-Send stays opt-in and default off. Preferences live in chrome.storage.local. 0.4.0 also ships a local Library (archive → search → continue on this device); that is the longer-lived product direction, and this hop guide stays valid. Add to Chrome
What “hop Claude to Gemini” means here
People search “hop Claude to Gemini,” “transfer Claude chat to Gemini,” or “continue Claude thread in Gemini” for two different jobs. Chat Transfer only does the first:
| Job | What moves | Chat Transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Hop current thread | The Claude chat you have open on claude.ai: Full, Last N, or last assistant → Gemini composer at gemini.google.com/app | Yes. Copy and export stay on this device too |
| Full-account migration | Claude Projects, artifacts, memories — or Gemini Gems, apps, and the rest of the Google account | No |
| Keep two sites in sync | An ongoing mirror after the hop, including TransferLLM-style account sync | No. One hop does not watch later messages |
| Send | Who presses Send on Gemini | Paste never silent-sends. Soft Auto-Send is opt-in, default off, and asks once |
The reverse walkthrough is Hop Gemini to Claude. Same extension, same local paste; that page starts on Gemini and lands in Claude. Sibling Claude hops: Hop Claude to ChatGPT and Hop Claude to Grok. ChatGPT into Gemini: Hop a ChatGPT chat to Gemini.
Hop vs copy-paste (what you actually get)
A hop is local continue — export/import style continue — not a prettier clipboard. This is the difference against highlighting Claude yourself and pasting into Gemini:
| Piece | Manual copy-paste | Chat Transfer hop |
|---|---|---|
| What is selected | Whatever you highlight — chrome, thought panels, and missed early turns included or omitted by hand | Full, Last N (starts at 10; presets 4 / 8 / 16), or last assistant, from the open Claude extract |
| Wrapper | None unless you type it | Names Claude (“The following is a transcript from Claude…”) plus a hop-reason line: Continue (default), Second opinion, Review, or Rate limit |
| Source line | Usually omitted | When the tab URL is http(s), hop adds Source: with query, hash, and credentials stripped. Copy and Export stay unwrapped — no hop wrapper and no Source: line |
| Title line | You decide | Include title in wrapper is off by default. When on, hop adds Title: from the Claude tab after the reason line |
| Long threads | Gemini’s box may cut; you may not notice | Over about 12k characters, Gemini gets a short Last N (or compact) paste and the full Markdown downloads as a .md so a cut is not silent |
| Send | You press Gemini Send | Paste never silent-sends. Soft Auto-Send is opt-in, default off, and asks once after a successful land |
| Backup | Only what is on the clipboard | Hop copies a backup. If Gemini’s composer is empty after land, paste that backup yourself — Soft Auto-Send does not run on a failed land |
| Accounts | Nothing migrates | Nothing migrates. Hop does not create a Gemini Gem or copy Claude Projects / artifacts |
Where the Claude source is read, and where Gemini lands
Open the Claude thread you want to continue — a chat on https://claude.ai/, not an empty new chat. The Claude adapter reads visible turns on the page. A hop toward Gemini lands on https://gemini.google.com/app, not inside an existing Gemini conversation and not inside a Claude Project drawer.
Claude’s composer is a ProseMirror contenteditable box when you are writing there; that box is not the extract source. Destination Send is Gemini’s control, never Claude’s Send Message / send-button.
Gemini’s composer shell can enable Send a moment after paste. Chat Transfer writes the hop with DOM events (execCommand('insertText') first, then input events, then a plain-text fallback). It does not call Gemini page-world editor APIs. If the box is empty after land, paste the hop backup yourself. Before inject, if Gemini’s composer already has a stale draft, paste land best-effort clears once, then pastes the exact hop preview.
Steps: Claude → Gemini in Chrome
- Add Chat Transfer from the Chrome Web Store (0.4.0).
- Open the Claude chat you want to continue in Gemini (a thread on claude.ai, not an empty new chat).
- Open the popup or side panel → pick a hop payload (Full, Last N, or last assistant) → optionally pick a hop reason (Continue, Second opinion, Review, Rate limit) → choose Open target / hop toward Gemini (or the hop-to-last-used shortcut if you bound Gemini last).
- Gemini’s app page (
https://gemini.google.com/app) gets a best-effort paste into the composer. If the box is empty, paste the hop backup yourself — Soft Auto-Send does not run on a failed land. - You click Send on Gemini — unless Soft Auto-Send is on (see below).
Extract runs only when you hop, Copy, or Export. Chat Transfer does not scrape Claude in the background. Longer install walkthrough: How to use.
Optional Also open can open one more Site with the same hop preview. From Claude with Gemini selected, that extra Site is one of the remaining ids (ChatGPT / Grok after excluding source and primary). Status still says you need to press Send on each destination. There is no third destination.
What the Claude extract actually keeps
Claude’s page mixes turns with chrome and optional thinking panels. Chat Transfer reads the open thread from public turn markers, then filters:
- Cheap Claude chrome is not a turn. Copy / action buttons and screen-reader role labels stay out of the hop when they are not message bodies.
- Empty assistant honesty. If an assistant turn is in the extract list but its trimmed body is empty, hop status says to check the page before hopping — it does not invent reply text.
- Scroll cap honesty. Scroll & extract stops after 12 attempts. If the turn count was still growing, status can remind once on the next successful Open target: “Last extract hit the scroll cap. More turns may remain.”
- Visible attachments become
[attachment not exported: …]— file bytes are not invented, and Claude artifacts / Projects are not rebuilt as Gemini Gems.
Keep system prompt only includes a system turn when that panel is currently in the DOM. Checking the box does not invent custom instructions. Code in a Claude turn walks the chosen body in child order: headings become ATX, a pre or one code shell becomes a fence, and prose stays between them. An empty walk, or one that drops most of the visible text, keeps innerText. Headings and fences are not zipped by index.
When to use Full, Last N, or last assistant
These three radios change what Gemini receives. They do not migrate the Claude account. Hop from turn (off by default) can further keep only turns from N through the end of the keep-system list; the payload radios stay and do not change that filter. Copy and Export stay the full unwrapped transcript.
| Payload | Use this when | Skip this when |
|---|---|---|
| Full | The visible Claude thread is the whole brief you want Gemini to continue — early constraints, later answers, and the last user ask | The thread is long enough to overflow (~12k characters) and you only need recent context |
| Last N | The Claude thread is long and Gemini only needs the recent slice. N starts at 10. Presets set 4, 8, or 16 | The first user brief or an early constraint still matters and sits outside N |
| Last assistant | You want Gemini to react to Claude’s last answer alone — typical for Second opinion or Review | Gemini needs the user asks that produced that answer |
Hop reason only changes the wrapper opening line. Continue (default) asks Gemini to absorb the transcript and continue from the last turn. Second opinion asks for an independent second opinion. Review asks Gemini to review the last turn or plan. Rate limit notes that Claude hit a rate limit or slowdown and asks Gemini to continue on this Site. Copy and Export never add that wrapper.
Hop / Copy / Export / Overflow: Hop pastes the wrapped preview. Copy puts the unwrapped transcript on the clipboard. Export downloads Markdown on this device (same unwrapped transcript as Copy). Over about 12k characters, Gemini’s composer gets a short Last N (or compact) paste and the full Markdown downloads as a .md so a cut is not silent. See Overflow paste.
Soft Auto-Send stays opt-in (default off)
A hop paste into Gemini does not silent-send. Soft Auto-Send is opt-in (hopSoftAutoSend in chrome.storage.local, default off). After a successful paste it asks once: “Send this hop now?” Confirm presses Gemini Send once; Cancel leaves the paste; a failed paste never asks. There is no upgrade path that turns the box on for existing installs. Full walkthrough: Soft Auto-Send. Same facts as the privacy policy (2026-10-09).
When the setting is on, Confirm is one best-effort press — not a retry loop. If Send is not pressable on the first look, Chat Transfer polls briefly (about two seconds) before one click; if that still misses, it may dispatch one plain Enter on the composer. That is the whole press budget for that hop. Try attach full.md can put a file in the box; that path still never clicks Send.
Local only — chrome.storage, no backend
Chat Transfer is a local-only Chrome extension. Settings (Demo mode, Keep system prompt, hop payload, last-used target, Soft Auto-Send) stay in on-device chrome.storage.local. There is no Chat Transfer backend; the marketing site does not receive hop text. Host access is only Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok domains — including claude.ai, gemini.google.com, and bard.google.com. Soft Auto-Send adds no host_permissions and no downloads permission.
Version 0.4.0 also keeps a local Library: archive a thread, search it, and continue from that archive on this device (CT Memory in chrome.storage / IndexedDB; optional folder index). That is the product direction for long-lived context. This hop page is still the right walkthrough when you want the open Claude thread pasted into Gemini now. Library archives stay on-device; hop still has no Chat Transfer backend.
This is still “this thread,” not a full-account move. Claude Projects, artifacts, and memories stay on Claude. Gemini Gems and Google account objects stay on Gemini. A Claude→Gemini hop only continues the open chat you asked to transfer.
When not to use a hop
- You need images, files, or Claude artifacts re-attached as Gemini uploads — hop notes them; it does not rebuild binaries.
- You want Claude memory or Projects copied as Gemini Gems — hop does not migrate those objects.
- You want the paste to land inside an existing Gemini thread — Open target opens
https://gemini.google.com/app. - You want background scraping while you browse — Chat Transfer only reads when you act.
- You need an ongoing sync between Claude and Gemini accounts — that is not what hop does. See Hop vs migration.
FAQ
Can I hop Claude to Gemini without migrating my account?
Yes. Chat Transfer hops the open Claude thread into Gemini’s composer on this device. It does not move accounts, memories, Projects, artifacts, Gems, or later messages.
Does hopping Claude to Gemini silent-send?
No. Paste never silent-sends. Soft Auto-Send is opt-in, default off, and asks once after a successful paste. It may press Gemini Send only after you confirm — never Claude Send on the source tab.
Is this different from hopping Claude to ChatGPT?
Same extension and local paste model. Source is Claude; destination is Gemini at gemini.google.com/app. Soft Auto-Send and payload choices (Full / Last N / last assistant) are shared. See the Claude → ChatGPT guide for that land URL.
Where does the Gemini hop land?
Open target opens https://gemini.google.com/app and pastes there. It does not append into an existing Gemini conversation, and it does not keep the two threads in sync after you send.
What if Claude’s last reply looks empty in the hop?
Do not assume the hop invented it. Empty-assistant honesty surfaces when an assistant turn is already in the extract list but its trimmed body is empty. Check the Claude page (still-streaming reply, thought-only chrome, or a missed message body) before you send on Gemini.
